Cardholders will have until June 30, 2021 to stack up these extra rewards, but must activate rewards by June 14 to be eligible. The new second quarter bonus categories arrive on the heels of what HomeAdvisor dubbed “The Year of the Home.” In 2020, restless, at-home consumers spent more on home improvement projects than they did in 2019. The latest Chase bonus categories may be a nod to this popular spending category, and are also well-suited for those driving more these days. Earning 5% back on home improvement purchases is a very competitive rate of return in this category, measuring up to what the Lowe’s store card offers consumers. While gas is a fairly common bonus category and 5% back is top-notch, Chase isn’t the only issuer offering additional gas rewards in Q2. The 5% cash-back bonus categories from Discover it Cash Back include gas, along with wholesale club and eligible streaming service purchases.
